Can you remember why you started smoking? Was it to be cool? Was it to fit in with your friends who smoked? Did you believe it was part of your “coming of age”? Did you think it was sexy? Did you signify your independence? How did you get hooked and addicted? Why has it become so difficult to quit?

Let’s begin with looking at the advertising industry’s past and present roles in glamorizing smoking.
Let’s look at their many tactics, both obvious and subtle, that successfully lure millions of people into nicotine addiction.

Stop and consider where your image of smoking came from. When did inhaling thousands of toxic, cancer-causing fumes become the image of cool? For most people, the answer to that question is simple. It came from advertising. Your image of cigarettes, one you may not even be aware of, has been carefully crafted by highly paid, skilled marketing executives who are employed by multi-billion dollar tobacco corporations. These marketing moguls definitely know what they are doing.

Their ads don’t paint the honest picture of cigarettes- what cigarettes contain and the harm that they cause. Have you ever seen an ad from a tobacco company which mentions that when you inhale cigarette smoke, you are taking in some of the same chemicals that are used to systematically kill rodents?

During the 50s and 60s, cigarette ads, whether in the form of television commercials, print ads in newspapers and magazines, or larger than life advertisements on outdoor billboards were always alluring, always appealing, and usually targeting a specific audience. There was the macho “Marlboro Man,” a rugged cowboy with a cigarette dangling from his mouth- an image that personified manliness. In the 1960s, the introduction of Virginia Slims brand cigarettes and its “You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby” campaign targeted the growing population of women smokers by appealing to their sense of independence.

Advertisers had a field day with catchy cigarette slogans and popular phrases like “Winston Tastes Good like a Cigarette Should,” “L&M. Just What the Doctor Ordered,” and “Us Tareyton Smokers Would Rather Fight Than Switch.”

Think about “Joe Camel,” a cigarette-smoking cartoon camel. Supposedly, this image was created to attract young smokers, mostly between 18 and 25, to choose the Camel Brand. The seemingly amicable cartoon character also begun to attract and appeal to young children.

A 1991 article published in the Journal of American Medical Association showed that children who were just sex years old were able to recognize Joe Camel more than 90% of the time- about as often as they were able to identify the Micky Mouse logo used on the Disney Channel.

It was also concluded that it was the intention of the campaign to directly market to children. In 1997, under increasing criticism and pressure from anti-smoking groups, the Federal Trade Commission, and US Congress, the maker of Camel cigarettes voluntarily ended the use of Joe Camel in its ads.

The bottom line is this: Tobacco companies invest significant capital to make you think of positive images, be it sexy, beauty, independence, intelligence, wealth or popularity every time you see a cigarette. And it works.

So think about how you started smoking, and understand that you were systematically duped. The question now is, how can you stop?

One of the most effective and in recent years the most popular method you can choose in order to quit smoking for good is the stop smoking shot.

A team of world renowned physicians and researchers created the stop smoking shot with the goal of alleviating the horrendous physical withdrawal symptoms that keep the majority of smokers from being able to quit. Medically backed and with results proven in the real world, the stop smoking injection is a real dream come true to smokers worldwide who want to quit smoking for good the easy way.

For the past few weeks I’ve been working in the pathway used by some very dedicated people: smokers! All day long, at each and every break they faithfully come past me. After a while I got to thinking that maybe I should start smoking and stress will just vanish. It must be, considering how many times a day these same people traipse back and forth from the opposite end of the building. Plus, I would get an extra break or two, since management seems to wink at some of these little pauses.

I’ve also noticed that they look and walk a little differently when they come and when they go. A little slower, a little more of a stare on their face, on their way back. Is that what nicotine, oxygen deprivation, and some of the 4000 chemicals contained in tobacco smoke does to people?

If everybody knows there are cancer causing chemicals in the smoke, why do they keep doing it? I read that there are 69 cancer causing chemicals in the smoke! It isn’t as easy as saying, â??It’s the nicotine, they are just hooked.â? No, there are other reasons, otherwise why would they make the trek every few hours, even when it is raining sleet outside?

Stress and smoking

It doesn’t take much observation to see that people smoke when they are stressed. You have to do something when you are stressed, but smoking cigarettes just makes more stress on the body.

This is why people think smoking reduces stress: When they feel tense, they smoke a cigarette and immediately after the nicotine buzz begins to diminish, they feel relaxed. What actually happens is that the nicotine increases the tension temporarily and then, when it lets up, you feel relaxed.

Kind of reminds me of my few months living and working part-time on a dairy farm. When a cow was bothered by a bad udder or something and had a hard time letting down the milk, the farmer would twist her ear. The cow would let down the milk because she forgot about her udder discomfort when her ear hurt more!

There must be some kinda way outta here

When you take something away from your belief system, you need to replace it with something better, otherwise you will surely return to the thing familiar. That’s why people stay in religious cults, but I digress. So, if you are going to quit smoking, you need to do something else instead.

Cold turkey, warm turkey, what about the turkey method? It works great for some people. They decide to quit and just quit, right here and now. They suffer the withdrawal symptoms for a short time and that’s that, they are done.

Other people quit over and over again, maybe eventually they manage to finally finish forever. But most people need some help. They need a plan, a method that works for their own needs. Maybe a patch, maybe gum, maybe supplements, there are a number of well documented methods that can help somebody to once and for all quit.

Many people don’t realize what a burden their smoking habit is, but if you do, you probably want to stop and are looking for ways to quit smoking. A lot of people who want to stop smoking wish they had never even started. So why do people begin smoking in the first place?

Upwards of 50 million people in the United States are smokers, which costs $15 billion each year- $5 billion of it going to taxes. Not only is it an expensive habit, it’s a growing one as well- people in 1914 smoked 144 cigarettes a year, but in 1963 that number had jumped to 4,346 cigarettes per person, annually. While the Surgeon General made an announcement around that time about the consequences that caused many people to stop smoking (or at least cut back), the young smokers that make up most of today’s addicts didn’t take it seriously and the number of yearly cigarettes per person has risen alarmingly high. In fact, many smokers ignore the warnings printed directly on the label of their pack of cigarettes.

Smoking became widespread when Columbus seized land, and its customs, from the native people. Travelers that had been with him returned to their home lands, and the practice spread. In those days, smokers simply inhaled the smoke from tobacco from a bowl. Cigarettes as we know them, rolled with paper and containing many dangerous chemicals such as nicotine and formaldehyde, did not become popular until World War I.

Most teenagers are pressured by their peers to start smoking, whether to prove their manliness or to fit in with the crowd. There is also the notion that younger smokers will appear older, and vice versa, which is why many older smokers avoid seeking ways to quit smoking even though they know the consequences. Many people begin smoking simply because those around them are doing so, and consequently form an addiction. It has also been shown that many cigarette campaigns are geared toward young people, who are more likely to take up the habit.

Dr. Raymond Pearl discovered in 1938 that smoking and life expectancy are directly related. He showed that at the age a 30, the death rate for a heavy smoker is twice as much as a non-smoker or a moderate one. He also found that heavy smokers can only expect to live around 27 more years, while non smokers can expect somewhere in the neighborhood of 38. Even with these shocking statistics, not too many are convinced that they should start experimenting with ways to quit smoking.

If you stop smoking, you can lengthen not only your life expectancy, but the life span of the people you spend your life with. You will create a healthier, cleaner environment for both, yourself and others, and give yourself and everyone in your life the opportunity to enjoy the short time we all have on this planet. Smoking is a habit that affects you and the people around you, so be kind to those you love (and to yourself) and start experimenting with the variety of ways to quit smoking.

How long have you been smoking? Whether it’s twenty years, thirty years, or maybe longer than you can remember, you’ll be glad to know that even “career smokers” can improve their health when they stop smoking and feel better almost immediately.

You’ve probably heard negative comments from other smokers, like: “Why should I stop now? I’ve been smoking my entire life,” or “My lungs are already damaged beyond repair. Stopping smoking now won’t make any difference.”

Fortunately, those beliefs are myths. With a little perseverance, will power, and maybe some outside help if needed, you can kick your smoking habit and reverse a good deal of the damage. Many smokers are surprised to learn that health improvements can occur within a matter of days.

Experience Immediate Results When You Stop Smoking

While most ex-smokers will tell you the first week is the hardest, they fail to mention the immediate health benefits from stopping smoking. Smokers are often so focused on their addiction and withdrawal symptoms that at first they might not realize the positive changes taking place in their bodies.

These are some common changes that occur within the first three days of stopping smoking:

1. Drop in pulse rate and blood pressure- Smoking has been known to increase the risk of high blood pressure. Within days of stopping smoking, most people experience a drop in their overall blood pressure and heart rate.

2. Increase in energy- After breaking your smoking habit, you should notice an increase in energy. Former smokers who suffered from fatigue often see an improvement in energy and stamina.

3. Nicotine elimination- In a matter of days, nicotine is eliminated from the body. The result is a boost to your senses. Foods will seem tastier than before and you’ll be more aware of both fragrant and foul smelling odors.

4. Breathing improvements- As changes occur in the bronchial tubes, breathing will become less of a chore. You’ll find your breathing will get lighter and more relaxed.

5. Carbon monoxide reduced- Smokers have an unhealthy level of carbon monoxide in the blood. In less than a day after stopping smoking, carbon monoxide levels will start to decrease, resulting in an increase of oxygen in the blood.

6. Lung cleansing- After carbon monoxide is removed from the blood stream, the lungs begin a much needed cleansing process. The heavy tar buildup that has accumulated in the lungs slowly starts to clear.

7. Healthier skin- Did you ever notice how some smokers have a dull, pasty complexion? By stopping smoking, you can improve your skin tone and reduce and prevent wrinkles.

Long Term Health Benefits From Stopping Smoking

Since smoking takes a gradual toll on your body, it’s unrealistic to expect all health improvements to occur overnight. Although you might not feel like a million dollars right away, rest assured that by stopping smoking now you’ll eventually experience major health improvements.

Here are some of the long-term benefits of breaking your smoking habit:

1. Less coughing- If coughing and hacking are a part of your daily routine, over the next several months these problems should decrease or be eliminated as the oxygen level in the lungs increases.

2. Easier exercise- Forget about huffing and puffing just to get up the stairs. Stopping smoking will improve your circulation, thus making exercise and everyday chores much simpler.

3. Fewer heart problems- Did you know smokers are at a greater risk when it comes to heart attacks? Thankfully the chance of having a heart attack will slowly start to decrease upon stopping smoking. After about ten years off tobacco, most former smokers no longer have an inflated risk for a heart attack. Even smokers who have already suffered from heart problems can reduce their risk of an additional heart attack by stopping smoking.

4. Reduced risk of lung disease- Perhaps the most common reason for stopping smoking is the fear of lung cancer. It’s true that the lungs take the most time to recover from cigarette smoking. But generally after a period of about ten years, most smokers will have reduced their chances of developing lung cancer by fifty percent.

Increase Your Life Expectancy… At Any Age

Whether you’re 35, 50, or 70 years old, the time to stop smoking is now. While younger smokers may tend to recover better from the ill effects of smoking, people of all ages can improve their overall health and increase life expectancy.

The key to success is to stop smoking before any serious health complications arise such as lung cancer or emphysema. However, if you have been diagnosed with either of these conditions or some other tobacco related illness, you can still boost your chances of recovery by stopping smoking immediately.

While receiving treatment for a serious illness, your body needs to be in the healthiest state possible. The sooner you stop smoking, the sooner your stress levels will decline, boosting your immune system to ward off life threatening diseases and conditions.

Remember the Marlboro guy? You don’t see those sorts of ads promoting tobacco products on TV anymore. Back in the day, it used to be cool to smoke. Today we know, more than ever, the many health problems that are associated with smoking a tobacco product. It is finally being seen as a bad habit, perhaps a socially unacceptable one by a few. But, why do so many people start smoking then? Each year millions of people will light their first cigarette. Will it be you this year?

Why We Smoke

Fitting in- In many schools, smoking is a large problem. Yes, it is still peer pressure that forces many teens to light up. Whether caused by the bully or the “come on, are you cool or not?” routine, smoking still happens quite a bit in those younger years. The best way to prevent your child from smoking is to talk to them about what it is, what it does to them, and the need to avoid it in the first place.

The partner does it- This is another large reason why people begin smoking in their young adult years. As they begin to date and hang around a group of people, they may just learn to smoke. Even if the non-smoking partner is never asked to take a smoke, it often happens that he/she gives it a try. At other times, people start it because it’s easier to make conversation at bars or clubs.

Stress relief- Many people know that those who are smoking are relieving stress through it. So, if your life gets overloaded with anxiety and worry, maybe smoking a pack will help you to deal with it. Atleast that’s how many individuals start smoking. Like other addictions, these feelings simply serve as a short-term escape from reality.

All of these reasons to start smoking do not have any real merit. After all, who really believes that it is cool to have tobacco yellow teeth? Nevertheless, thousands of people make the decision to start, pressured or not each day. Will you be one of them? You may want to realize, too, that if you never do start to smoke, you’ll never have to fight the battle of quitting, a task that is harder than most problems of our daily life.

Do you (or your parents!) Recall the times when the tobacco manufacturers publicized cigarettes as being beneficial for you? Making use figures of speech and stereotypes like “The Marlboro Man” and hook lines such as “More Doctors Smoke Camels than any other Cigarette” or Doral Cigarettes’ “Taste Me! Taste Me! Come on and Taste Me!” they contrived to portray tobacco smoking with a positivistic twist advertising smoking equally as representing a habit that was socially accepted as a component of a wholesome out-of-door life-style! Give thanks that times and opinions have shifted and society has progressed and those kinds of promotional materials are plainly no longer acceptable, as a matter of fact in a few nations it’s prohibited to promote tobacco merchandises at all. At one time smoking was perceived to be “cool”, yet, nowadays everybody is very conscious, maybe to a greater extent than ever, of the umpteen diseases and associated health troubles that have been scientifically proven to be related to smoking tobacco products.

At long last smoking tobacco is being publicly acknowledged as being a great deal more than merely a “bad habit” but one that’s progressively socially unaccepted with numerous government’s actually going so far as to prohibit smoking in public places . But how come, taking into account the copious amounts of negative publicity given to smoking do myriad individuals choose to brush aside all the data on that point and decide that they are going to start smoking for the first time in their lives? Will the next member of the smoking ranks be your child, a cherished one or a good acquaintance?

Here just a few the grounds individuals give to explain their smoking habits:

It Helps Me To Get Rid Of Stress – Smoking has forever personified the release of stress. Therefore, whenever you come to the point that you feel that your life is weighed down with concerns, tension or anxiousness, perchance you will likewise have the idea that taking the wrapper off of a nice new packet of cigarettes and lighting one up will in some manner help you deal with your problems more comfortably. This appears to represent an element not only in some individuals’ grounds for smoking tobacco but even how come they commenced smoking to begin with. In fact smoking doesn’t and can’t alleviate your stress or anxiousness it simply dishes out a short-lived hike to your moral ascribable the consequences of nicotine circulating around your bloodstream

“My Husband/Wife/Partner is a Smoker” – One of the most common reason individuals cite for their smoking habit is that the individuals they live with, see or socialise with smoke tobacco so therefore it follows that they also pick up the use of tobacco. Even the non smoking spouse of a person who happens to smoke will frequently “see what it’s like” and so progresses on to convert into a “casual smoker”, and by and large goes on to being hooked on nicotine. Some other times adolescents start to smoke merely because to they believe that smoking in sociable surroundings is an aid to fitting in with their peers.

Peer Pressure – youngsters and adolescent’s habits of smoking is a vast problem and it is widely acknowledged that it’s the forcefulness of peer pressure that presses a lot of adolescents to combust their initial cigarette. In spite of all the health instruction adolescents still believe that if they smoke then their schoolmates will reckon them to be “cool” and perchance it is likewise envisioned as a stride toward maturity “grown-ups Smoke…” As a Parent in that respect there is possibly is little to be done to ensure that your youngster will not at any rate try out smoking yet you’ll be able to at the least go in some way toward precluding your offspring starting to smoke by speaking with them openly, stating well-known consequences of smoking tobacco and spotlighting the troubles they’re well-nigh sure to confront in by and by if they do choose to smoke.

Not one of the so called reasons or excuses elaborated for taking up smoking tobacco contain any substantial merit in the least. Does anybody genuinely think that possessing dentition yellowed through years of inhaling nicotine bearing tar infested smoke could personify “cool” or that featuring 2 digits of one hand tinged an everlasting tenebrous yellow from constantly gripping a lit cigarette is appealing? Disregarding this for any grounds innumerable individuals choose day-after-day to begin smoking. Will you or a person you are close to be the next?

Prior to starting to smoke tobacco you ought to first deliberate that if you never begin smoking you’ll never fetch up being forced to battle the dependency it bestows or finish up expending thousands of laboriously garnered dollar bills on a life jeopardising habit.

Why I am going to say these facts in the following paragraphs with a false title, because people have to freaking learn the truth… It can’t kill you, I get shocked when people say that “It’ll kill you” and yet who told you that? Your parents, probably it is because they were learned by their parents too… Built up all on false information… Now please read this.

Smoking weed isn’t bad… True facts about pot:
Why marijuana isn’t that bad! Because it isn’t! The sweet-mary-jane just only makes you feel good! Alcohol is still 10x worse than it! For god sake’s caffeine is worse than it! The bomb is the least toxic illegal drug! And why do your parents/government/etc allows you to make the stupid decision to drink alcohol, but not smoke the sweet-leaf? I mean ma-rich-ana kills brain cells, but doesn’t kill your brain, while alcohol kills a lot of brain cells and plus gives you brain poisoning? Okay, it’s not good to smoke the black-stuff, but it’s worse to drink alcohol? So why rid the choice of just making you feel good, when you are bored and nothing to do, instead of getting drunk and then having a hangover? Tobacco cigarettes (with added chemicals by companies) is a much dangerous thing to take instead of smoking the good-sh*t… Nicotine makes you addicted to the cigarettes, while suckers, you don’t get addicted to all! Don’t believe all the reefer madness (false information about marijuana) that your parents tell you… You should be given the choice to smoke reef, same for alcohol and tobacco… LEGALIZE MARIJUANA! Look I get strait Bs (and Cs) at school and I smoke dope, so it doesn’t kill your brain that much… I know a girl, intelligent girl, much better than me, that gets strait As and smokes the battery! It’s a gift from god, he planted it on the earth! It’s a natural plant that grows in the south! Natural! Why did it became illegal? Same reason why alcohol became illegal with marijuana in the 30s… The tobacco company saw both marijuana and alcohol as big competitors so they advertise that it was bad (reefer madness), then the government got scared and it made both illegal… Alcohol soon became back legal, and now it’s the time for marijuana! Keep smoking dynamite, it’ll BLOW YOUR MIND! And this is true information, you can get this wherever through the internet. But still people will believe reefer madness… It’s bad, but somehow good, because it’s more healthier than the rest. Parents would react if they see their child drinking, but seeing their child smoking, OMFG! It’s healthier than alcohol, but still yet, we need panic more! It’s illegal! OMFG! It’s bad! … C’mon… F*ck that sh*t! People panic more when things are illegal, when the things shouldn’t be illegal. If it becomes legal the drug dealers will stop dealing and the drug won’t cost a lot. Also it’ll help the government, it’ll take care of the mafia, well not completely, but still mostly, because weed is their biggest drug that sells! And they want to keep it illegal, for the money! So they’ll lose a lot of profit when it becomes legal. And also a lot of street problems will stop if the drug becomes legal, because it is because it is illegal that the drug is causing fights, not because of the drug itself. Also Marijuana isn’t a gateway drug, not at all, it’s your fault if you start taking other drugs, don’t blame it on the weed! This drug just makes you high! It’s just a plant that naturally grows in the south, but when you sat on fire and breath in the smoke… It just makes you feel good. You get no hallucinations from pot, well yes but it has to reach an overdose of it and the amount of cannabis (marijuana) you have to smoke to get hallucinations is until it becomes poisonous to the body, and that’s like smoking a building of marijuana. I hope parents/adults will understand, but they won’t, they never do… They’ll just feel ashamed, embarrassed and disappointed in you. They just want everything to be “perfect”, and want you to follow their orders… They have to understand that smoking TNT-sticks is better than smoking just plain old cigarettes…
Yes there is a lot of side terms I used… I did it in purpose.

PS: I however believe that Class A drugs (heroin, cocaine, crystal meth, etc) should stay illegal. They can ruin your life, pot can’t…

And BTW I don’t need this drug to be happy… I have a life, my life is music! Last time I smoked it was like 1 year ago… I really don’t need it, but I just don’t understand why it is illegal… “Illegal Substance is bad!” and yet this illegal substance is better than other illegal drugs, and better than legal drugs… Caffeine is more toxic that marijuana! That shows how bad this plant is!
Where’s all this bullsh*t coming from?!
I’m not freaking retarded? Where do you get this your information from your dad? Who doesn’t know sh*t? I’m just saying it is stupid for it to be illegal.. and I stopped smoking it, but still, I still think it should be legal… I quit smoking weed, and it doesn’t matter, it’s still normal! It’s rare I’ve seen someone get addicted with it, because it isn’t much of an addiction… Much drugs are worse! Alcohol is much worse! But yellow teeth? God, you just have to brush your teeth to not get yellow teeth… Okay what else now?… Well I’m not going to get caught… Many people who put BS answers are the ones who didn’t read my text… Anyways, even if I quit it, if I had a choice in the future to drink alcohol or smoke marijuana, I’m safer with marijuana much more than alcohol!
