Pause for a second and consider where your image of smoking came from. The strategies that advertising companies, hired by multi-billion dollar tobacco companies employ to seduce people such as you into smoking cigarettes effectively glamorizes the image of cigarettes and smoking then.

You may not be aware of how this image was carefully cultivated by highly skilled marketers and advertisers, who study the human psychology and use it to spread the image of smoking that lures people to start smoking.

Then 70s, the US Congress passed a law banning the advertising of cigarettes and other tobacco products on radio and on television. However, print ads in magazines were still allowed. All advertisements were required to display a health warning from the Surgeon General. Although not being able to advertise on TV may have been a setback for tobacco corporations, it was only a minor one. They continued to promote cigarette smoking in indirect and more subtle ways, with very clever tactics.

What are some of the ways they advertise indirectly? To begin with, they found great success in creating “ads” of their products by embedding them in movies. Lois Lane did not smoke in the Superman comic book series, but she chain-smoked Marlboros all through the movie Superman II. That same movie showed the Marlboro brand approximately forty times, including scenes in which Superman threw a villain into a Marlboro truck. Phillip Morris reportedly only paid 42,000 dollars for the ad to be placed, a small price to pay considering the number of people that saw it.

Phillip Morris wasn’t the only one. Between 1990 and 1997, more than 80 percent of each year’s top twenty-five films included tobacco use, often targeting specific brands. The main character of the Disney movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit smokes Lucky Strikes. Even the father in Honey I Shrunk the kids smoked Camel cigarettes. The popular sequel Ghostbusters II includes both packs of Marlboros and Kools.
The power of this subtle form of advertising is very strong. According to the Associated film Promotions, “Seeing a product, even for a second, in a realistically dramatic setting in which the viewer is already emotionally involved leaves an invaluable impression.” Young people, especially under the age of twenty, who make up about 40 percent of moviegoers, are especially susceptible to being influenced by what they see in theaters and on television. For example, sales for the candy Reese’s Pieces skyrocketed after it was spotlighted in the movie ET.

The truth is that these cigarette placements in movies send a more powerful message than printed ads. They certainly make more of an impression on young people who want to dress and look like their favorite celebrities. As a result, they often want to smoke like their favorite celebrities.

In the late 1990s, a legal agreement in signed in forty-six states ensured that tobacco companies could no longer legally pay for product placement in movies. But due to a loophole in the agreement, tobacco companies still have managed to make impressions to make their way to the audiences.

Other indirect methods of advertising used by the tobacco industry include sponsoring live televised sports events, direct-mail campaigns, etc. Another tactic they use is the use of tobacco brand names on products such as clothing. The Marlboro Classics clothing line- a wide range of shirts, jackets, and accessories all include the logos and/or ads associated with the Marlboro tobacco company.

What it comes down to is this- tobacco companies invest serious and significant capital to make us think of positive images, be it sexiness, beauty, intelligence, independence, wealth, popularity, every time we see a cigarette. The money they pay is a bet that these positive associations created in our mind with these images and tobacco will result us in buying their product. And it works. No doubt.

What are your thoughts? When I started smoking I felt I was part of a small culture. Now it seems everyone is smoking pot. Is it more socially acceptable now or do others still look down on marijuana smokers like they are lazy pot heads?
I agree Gilgamesh. Alcohol is much worse but no one is afraid to admit they drink

It is very essential to know exactly how smoking is injurious to health. Once you have the understanding of how it affects your health, then you are able to counter its affects on the body. Smoking can lead to many kinds of heart and lung diseases, two of the most essential organs of the human body.

Different kinds of cancer are caused by smoking, the most common being lung and throat cancer. Smoking can also decrease the bodys immunity system. Due to this, a smoker is more prone to diseases such as bronchitis and pneumonia as compared to a nonsmoker. The commonly used slogans to educate people that smoking is injurious to health are usually right. On an estimated average, smoking takes away between 5 to 20 minutes of a persons lifespan with every cigarette.

Smoking is defined as the act of smelling or inhaling the smoke of a substance, mostly tobacco. There are many reasons for doing so, the most common being cultural reasons or peer pressure. Cigarettes, pipes and hookahs are the most popular methods of smoking.

It is very important for all those who smoke to keep it in mind that smoking is injurious to health. Smoking has been known to cause many problems. Not only is it a major cause of pollution but it also is one of the leading causes of premature death in developed countries.

Smoking can cause weaker bones and yellow teeth. Wrinkling and bad skin can also occur with time. Stamina is also reduced due to decreased blood circulation leading rapid heartbeat and shortage of breath. There are also many other day to day issues related with smoking such as bad breath as well as bad smell from hair and hands.

The human body knows that smoking is injurious to health; therefore, it tries to counter it at the start. That is why coughing, sore throat, nausea and other negative feelings are aroused in the body when a person tries to smoke the first time.

The tobacco companies have very deep pockets. They have spent billions of dollars in advertising over the years and they know how to keep their customers. They want you to die a smoker. Their bottom line depends on it. And you will if you do not quit.

What if I told you that stopping smoking was easy? That smoking is a body and mind addiction. Yes, body AND mind!

I don’t know anyone that actually picks up a cigarette and goes, ” mmmmm, tastes great!” Do you? Of course not. Your body rejects it. It coughs, hacks, spits, and does everything that it can to tell you this is bad stuff. You started because your mind was thinking how cool you will be, how much older it will make you look and your body is obeyed. Now you are addicted.

Everyone starts this way. EVERYONE. You had to use your mind to convince your body or you would reject it.

I find it fascinating that almost all methods of quitting smoking do not take into consideration the mind. There are pills and patches and inhalers and gums. All these programs have a very low success rate.

Doesn’t it make sense to use the very part of you that started the whole thing – Your mind?? Or course it does.

Everyone starts to smoke for some sort of motivating reason. If I gave you a piece of food that was stinky, burned your throat and made you cough and gag, how many pieces would you eat? I don’t think very many. See, it would be unnatural for you to want more.

Smoking is not natural or everyone would be smoking. You cannot grow a cigarette tree in your backyard or a cigarette plant in your garden. They are not natural. Tobacco may be natural but cigarettes are far more than tobacco with an estimated 4000 ingredients added! The list is highly guarded and protected by law as a trade secret. Imagine that. It’s the public’s health and it’s a trade secret. Something isn’t right.

But one thing that is right is the decision to quit smoking. Quitting smoking is the one thing that will immediately improve your life and the life of those around you. When a person realizes that quitting IS a Body and Mind process it makes the process much easier.

Recently I’ve cut back on smoking pot because I have been having horrible times while under the influence. I experience intensely elevated heart rate, shortness of breath, panic attacks, and a general sense that something is horribly wrong. I’ve been a regular smoker now for about 3 years and I’ve only experienced similar effects off of massive bong rips and or brownies and such. I bought an at home drug test and it was only positive for THC so laced marijuana is not the issue. I am having these symptoms off of as little as one hit. I went to a doctor and had an EKG and they said everything was normal and my chest pain could be caused by stress. I was wondering of anyone else has experienced anything similar or if you had any ideas as to what could be causing it. I really enjoy smoking and it would be sad to have to quit.

This is an honest question and I need an even more honest answer. I started smoking pot more offten because it helps me complete tasks that I do not want to do. Marijuana does not make me lazy at all. My Mom found out I was smoking it and sent me to a basic rehab where I learned all the bad things that can happen to me. Since I started smoking, I have done better in school than ever before. I started working out, and taking a more serious aproach to my life and the way it is going. I want to be successful and I truly believe that the drug is helping. I have been clean since the rehab and I find myself not doing the things as good as I was while I was smoking. Also, I am fully aware that Marijana can make me think that I am doing things better when I am not. I know Im not addicted because I was able to stop no problem. Weed has turned me into a better, more caring person and I would like to get a public opinion on what I should do. Thanks

I live in Illinois but have been purchasing cigarettes online through the UK. The place that I usually buy cigarettes from told my boyfriend I might be liable for taxes. Is this correct?

February 10th, 2010

There is somebody in my class at school whom I suspect of smoking pot. This morning, he was extremely late, and brought a foul smell in with him. I was just wondering if the smell of marijuana on someone else’s clothes ( without the smoke) could have any effect on me.

Thanks in advance

Thousands of dollars spent yearly on cigarettes and millions of deaths result from smoking. If you’ve asked yourself why you should give up smoking these are just two of the most solid reasons to quit today. Think about it, no seriously take a minute of what you’re doing right now and think about the corporate executives sitting around the boardrooms, flapping their fat bellies around, discussing new ways to improve their markets. Are you aware of the fact that their success only depends on you as a smoker? Nobody should start in the first place but trust me it’s all about the billions of dollars these huge corporations earn each and every year, and that’s just because of you!

The tobacco corporations have very thick pockets, spending billions each year in advertising campaigns, and they do know how to keep their customers ‘happy’. Seriously! The sad part is that they want you to die as a smoker, otherwise they’d go bankrupt in no time. Therefore their bottom line only depends on your smoking habit.

Quit smoking today or you’ll increase the chances of getting serious illness, sooner of later. Stopping smoking isn’t easy and I’m sure you need professional help. What if I told you that you could stop smoking within a week? .. Smoking is a body and mind action, that you can learn to control and quit for good. Yes you got it right, body and mind!

Lets have a look for a minute at several factors when smoking. I haven’t ever heard someone saying “I love how this cigarette tastes!”. Have you? No of course not! Your body doesn’t need the nicotine, it actually rejects it every time you have a cigarette. Coughing, spits, hacks are just some of the things that best prove your body rejects cigarettes and you need to quit. Bottom line, the addiction to nicotine is getting worse and worse as you continue to smoke. It will be a lot harder to quit in 2 year’s time.

I don’t find it fascinating at all that most of the smoking aids do not take into consideration one of the most important things when someone decides to quit smoking, which is your mind. Pills, patches, inhalers, nicotine gums and the latest product released — the electronic cigarette have a very low success rate, most people fail and you might know this already. Still wondering why you haven’t been able to quit smoking? It’s not only you.. but with such smoking aids most people will fail!

The best approach when someone finally decides to give up smoking for ever is by teaching and actually manipulating your mind, which is the very part of you that started this bad habit in the first place. Your mind. Using hypnotherapy or NLP will not only help you quit smoking for good but you’ll also be able to overcome this habit without having to suffer the cravings.

One more thing that smokers aren’t aware of: There is a big difference between smoking natural grown tobacco and smoking ‘popular brands’. Either of them are harmful, but the latter contains more than 4000 deadly substances. Most of the substances that are added to cigarettes are highly guarded and protected by the law as a trade secret. Try to imagine that. It’s the public’s health and it’s a trade secret. Something just isn’t right.

The only thing that is right to do is to quit smoking today. If you manage to give up cigarettes you’ll immediately notice you are a lot more healthier, you’ll have a better taste and smell, you’ll stop coughing and spitting and enjoy your life just as you are supposed to!

So if you decide to quit smoking, you need to realize that quitting is all about a body and mind process, therefore quitting can only be done with hypnotherapy or NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming). Read our review of the top Stop Smoking Hypnosis Program: Quit Smoking Today.
